Leeds City OB III 1 Trinity II 3
Eamonn O'Hanrahan, playing in an
uncustomary forward position, scored his first ever goal for Trinity as they beat
Leeds City OB III 3-1. Richard Lambert and Jim Mullowney added the
other goals as Trinity II ended their season with a victory.
In a bid to unsettle Leeds City's
tactical plans, or just for a 'bit of a laugh', Trinity manager
Jimmy Yates made his players pick their positions from a hat before the
start of the game. As a result winger/forward Greg Turner was forced
to play centre back, no-nonsense centre back Eamonn O'Hanrahan was forced
to play centre forward and midfield creator Dean Holloway was forced to
play at left back. Forwards Mullowney and O'Hanrahan were sent out
with the orders to find the back of the net. However this appeared
to be unlikely as representatives from the Leeds City team claimed before
the kick off that their manager had 'gone AWOL', which meant there were no
nets. Furthermore no appearance by the referee meant Jimmy Yates was
asked to referee the game. Armed with a mobile phone to act as the
official timepiece and a borrowed whistle for the referee on the adjacent
pitch he was about to begin the match. All of a sudden someone
appeared with a set of nets and the official match referee arrived.
Game on!
After the pre-match soap opera Trinity
were quicker to settle. Mullowney nearly gave Trinity the lead with
a rasping long-range shot that thudded off the bar. O'Hanrahan did
give Trinity the lead, coolly tucking the ball under the keeper after
being played through by Mullowney. 1-0, which is how the first-half
ended.
Early in the second half Trinity's lead
was doubled. Neil Higgins' cross from the left found Richard
Lambert, who volleyed home from close range to make it 2-0. Later
O'Hanrahan returned the earlier favour by squaring the ball to
Mullowney. After sidestepping the keeper he fired the ball home to
make it 3-0. Trinity didn't have it all their own way as goalkeeper
Lee Field was upon to make some excellent saves throughout the game.
Leeds City finally grabbed a consolation goal with ten minutes
remaining. A free kick on the left was headed in at the far post to
make it 3-1. Despite tiring in the hot sun Trinity managed to hold
onto their lead, securing a win to finish off their season

Greg Turner made it 2-0 when he scored Trinity's second. Leeds City
narrowed the deficit before half-time, making it 2-1. With Trinity cruising

Trinity II 2 Centralians II 1
First half goals from Nathaniel
Stapleton and Dean Holloway, with his fourth in three games, proved to be
be enough as Trinity II beat Centralians II 2-1. Despite conceding a
second half penalty Trinity held on to secure another three points to
extend their unbeaten run to eight games.
Trinity turned up today with five first
team players unavailable but it wouldn't have been known by the
professional performance today as they triumphed 2-1 against a good Centralians'
team. with the absentees, this meant starts for Barton at left back, and
Kissane up front, with Martin moving from left back to left midfield and
Turner from left midfield to centre forward.
Trinity started strong, having more of
the ball than their opponents. It was the first real chance of the game
after around the 15 minute mark, with some great work from Turner on the
left, which saw a beautiful cross and found Holloway with his 4th in 3
games. Shortly after, Trinity were forced into making a substitution as
Kissane was suffering with pain in the hamstring. Disappointment for
Kissane as he was looking to perform well and keep a starting place. He
was replaced by Stapleton, with his 2nd appearance for Trinity. He didn't
take long to get involved in the game as his first touch was impressive.
His ability to hold the ball up also gave Trinity an extra strength. It
didn't take long for him to put his name on the score sheet after again
some great work from Turner, this time down the right played a low ball
across goal for Stapleton to hit the roof of the net from a yard. 2-0 to
Trinity and even though it wasn't their best performance, Trinity were
still comfortable.
Half Time 2-0.
The second half saw another change,
Stapleton was feeling a bit sick, so new signing Roberts took his place.
Midway through the 2nd half saw Centralians awarded a penalty even though
it was so clear Holloway was fouled and not the other way round. But you
ain't going to change the referee's mind. Centralians' centre half Clough
took responsibility and blasted it past Thompson to make it 2-1. That was
really the only shot on goal Centralians had. Trinity had one more good
chance before the end as some great two touch passing eventually found
Martin at the edge of the box and his first time shot just went the wrong
side of the post. Eight unbeaten now with a difficult away game against
title challengers Gildersome Spurs. Trinity are now fifth in the league,
and with ten games to go, are 12 points behind the top two. A fantastic
turnaround from the boys in green.
Team: Thompson; O'Hanrahan, Connolly, Buckle,
Barton, Holloway, Williams, Lambert,
Martin, Turner, Kissane
Subs: Stapleton (for
Kissane), Roberts (for Stapleton)

Leeds Independent 2 Trinity II 2
This game brought
together two in form teams as both teams since they last met were
unbeaten. This game had all the prospects to be a beauty. Trinity players
were looking rather good as they turned up to pitch in their new Trinity
jackets. It's a good job there were no women present or there might have
been a problem.
The match started end
to end with both defences being worked but with no clear cut chances from
either team. The first breakthrough fell to Trinity as a scramble in the
box fell to Yates who crossed the ball from the left and found an unmarked
Holloway to head the ball into an open goal. That goal seemed to upset the
Independent crowd as they started swearing at everyone, even their
linesman/substitute decided to come on the pitch and threaten Holloway.
Then the referee decided to have a word with the Independent manager as
all he wanted to do was shout a load of rubbish at everyone. we don't know
what the ref said, but their manager wasn't amused and decided to tell
everyone that he's killed for less. The poor referee had his life at stake
now.
Independent managed to
equalise shortly after all this as some poor defending left a couple of
players spare in the box and a low cross from the left found forward Kwame
Westerman who calmly passed the ball passed Thompson to make it 1-1.
Minutes after, Trinity made it 2-1, as the ball fell to Holloway at the
edge of the box and mis-hit his shot but somehow went out of reach of the
keeper and into the top corner. It looks like Holloway has found the
scoring touch and if he would've hit a shot like that two week ago, that
would not have gone in. Holloway wasn't complaining and neither were any
of the Trinity players or supporters.
Half Time 2-1.
The second half began
with a controversial penalty given to Independent when Williams was
alleged to have hand balled it, surprisingly, the ref gave it but had
managed to miss some more blatant hand balls in the first half. But there
was no need to panic as Trinity keepers have a good record at saving
penalties, and Thompson didn't disappoint with a fantastic save to his
right and Trinity remained ahead. It was worked out after the game now,
six of the last eight penalties have been saved now. Independent put
Trinity under a bit of pressure after but nothing that the back four
couldn't handle. It was going to be something special or some sort of
fluke that was going to break down the back four, and indeed it was. As
the Independent striker was through, Bygrave made a great tackle, but
kicked the ball onto the striker's shin and past Thompson to equalise.
Nobody was to blame for the goal, it was one of those things, as Buckle
and especially Bygrave on his first start, impressed and Bygrave walked
the man of the match award.
Trinity had two
chances to win the game as Yates scuffed a chance when maybe he had time
to take a touch first. And the best chance fell to substitute Kissane, as
he was one-on-one with the keeper. With the defender catching him
up, Kissane's legs gave way and fell over. Yet disappointed, at the end of
the game we saw the funny side of it although it maybe cost us all three
points. All in all, a good performance all round, all thirteen players who
took part today did their job, and Trinity now go seven games unbeaten under the management of Jimmy Yates.
Team: Thompson; Williams, Bygrave, Buckle,
Martin, Holloway, Higgins, Lambert, Turner, Yates, Hobbs
Subs: Kissane (for
Holloway), Barton (for Williams)

Trinity II 4 Agnes Stewart 1
Trinity Seconds
managed their 3rd win under new manager Yates. Having defeated Agnes Stewart 4-0 on the opening day of the
season Trinity went into the game as favourites. From Kick off Trinity attacked and started brightly trying to
get the games opening goal. When
it came it was well worth waiting for with manager Yates picking the ball
up 25 yards from goal and little seemed on however his early excellent
early shot found the top corner. 1-0.
Trinity continued to press and from an Agnes Stewart corner Hobbs
picked the ball up before playing it through to Lambert who ran through
one on one to coolly show Hobbs how to finish and make the score 2-0.
Half Time 2-0
The second half
started and Trinity seemed to think they had done the hard work and could
just sit back and let Agnes Stewart attack them however this led to them
coming more and more into the game and there big striker was causing
Trinity a few problems at the back. However
somewhat against the run of play Trinity won a free kick which was
excellently delivered to Lambert to the back post where Turner headed back
across the keeper from an unlikely angle and found the other corner –
3-0. Agnes Stewart started to
attack again and created a couple of chances hitting the bar at one point
however the excellent O’Hanrahan kept them at bay and prevented too many
clear cut opportunities. That
is until Martin kicked their big striker up into the air conceding a
penalty, which despite Thompson's fingertips found its way into the
net. 3-1.
Trinity then realised
that they needed to start playing again and started to push forward and
play a bit more football. This was rewarded when Lambert's shot was
blocked by the keeper for Holloway to lob back into the empty net for his
first of the season. 4-1.
This was how the game
finished with Trinity comfortable winners although the score line may not
have done justice to a reasonably good Agnes Stewart side but Trinity took
there chances on the day. Although
the football on the day was somewhat ruined by the wind sources of
amusement for the crowd, including the ever eloquent Lee Field, included
Lambert being nutmegged by possibly the fattest player in the league and
Neil Higgins' rant at his team-mates for lack of communication, which saw
him jumping up and down on the spot after being tackled on his blind side.
Team: Thompson; Martin, O'Hanrahan,
Buckle, Curran, Higgins, Lambert, Holloway, Turner, Yates, Hobbs
Subs: Bygrave (for
Buckle), Williams (for Curran), Kissane (for Turner)

Almondburians 0 Trinity II 1
Eamonn Kissane scored the winner in the
last five minutes of the game, following a John Hobbs cross, as Trinity II
beat Almondburions 1-0.
Trinity went into the new year against a
team having a similar season as ourselves. After the very long trip and
the very small changing rooms, Trinity had at most five minutes to prepare
for the game.
Manager Yates decided to play 4-4-2 on a
day where the slope and the wind looked like they were going to take
control of the game. The first half got underway with the Denby Dale side
playing downhill with the wind dominating most of the play but Trinity's
back four being solid, and when called upon, Field was there to make three
top saves. Trinity had chances also, but by half time, Trinity were the
happier side by keeping the score goalless.
The second half started slowly, not many
chances for either team, as Trinity failed to take advantage of the wind
and slope advantage. A couple of chances fell to Trinity but weren't going
trouble the keeper. Almondburians had a chance when their winger tried
curling a low and hard shot round Field but he was at full stretch to tip
the ball round the post. After that it was all Trinity with a chance
falling to Yates after a bad pass back in which the keeper saved and with
the goal as empty as it could ever be, Hobbs managed to do the impossible
and put it wide. Injuries started to haunt Trinity then as Buckle was
taken off with cramp and Phil Bygrave came on to play centre back for the
first time in Trinity colours, and Field also went down after colliding
with an attacker in a one-on-one incident. This resulted in Barton
entering the field of play and Yates putting on the gloves.
With the game drawing to a conclusion,
Trinity finally broke the deadlock, as Hobbs was through on goal, and a
more confident Hobbs would've probably gone alone, instead played a
perfect ball across the face of goal for Kissane to score his first goal
for Trinity reserves with a simple tap in. Barton had a chance with a
header which was inches wide and also nearly got to a rebound which he was
beaten to by the defender. A solid performance by Trinity who deserved the
three points and the turnaround continues with their second clean sheet on
the spin.
Team: Field; Curran, O'Hanrahan,
Buckle, Martin, Holloway, Higgins, Lambert, Turner, Yates, Hobbs
Subs: Bygrave (for
Turner), Kissane (for Buckle), Barton (for Field)

Wortley II 1 Trinity II 1
New Trinity II manger Jimmy Yates
celebrated his first match in charge with a well earned point against top
of the table Wortley II. Ashley Crowther opened the scoring
for Wortley, striking a low free-kick into the bottom right hand corner of
the net to make it 1-0. However Trinity fought back. Dean Holloway
who was scoring for fun last season thought he had opened his account for
Trinity with a great twenty-five yard drive that hit the cross bar.
Trinity's equaliser came in the second half after fine play and a shot
from Eamonn Kissane that hit the post. John Hobbs was first to the

Trinity II 2 Carlton Athletic 3
Colin Buckle rifled in an excellent
free-kick but Trinity II lost at home to Carlton Athletic. Richard
Lambert scored Trinity's other goal in the 3-2 defeat.
Trinity took an early lead from a free-kick
just outside the Carlton area. Lambert laid the ball on for Buckle
who smashed the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-0.
Carlton equalised before half-time through Craig Hewitt. He beat three
defenders before placing the ball past Trinity keeper Smith, to make it
1-1.
In the second half Carlton took the lead,
when Hewitt grabbed his second to make it 2-1. Lambert levelled the
score for Trinity. His superb strike from the edge of the area made
it 2-2. With twenty minutes to go Carlton were awarded a penalty. Up

Trinity II 3 East Leeds Trinity 4
(after extra time)
A last minute winner in extra time was the
difference between the two Trinity teams. Unfortunately it was East
Leeds Trinity that scored it to win a fantastic cup tie 4-3, to progress
into the next round of the Leeds & District Cup.
Greg Turner opened the scoring for Trinity
in the first half, with the aid of a slight deflection to make the score
1-0. John Hobbs increased Trinity's lead, turning in the area before
shooting low past the keeper to make it 2-0. East Leeds Trinity cut
their deficit before half-time. A corner was volleyed in by the
unmarked Pete Bradley, to make it 2-1.
With ten minutes of the second half
remaining East Leeds Trinity grabbed an equaliser. A Rob Smith
clearance struck the backside of Colin Buckle and went into the path of
forward Kean Varley, who had the simple chance of putting the ball into
the unguarded net. 2-2 at the end of normal time.
A lob from Varley put East Leeds Trinity
3-2 up in extra time. Trinity equalised through Neil Higgins.
His finish following a goal mouth scramble made the score 3-3. With
the minute of extra time to go East Leeds Trinity grabbed their winner
through Varley. He broke through the Trinity defence, clipping the
ball over Smith to get his hat-trick and more importantly the winning
goal. 4-3 to East Leeds Trinity and heartbreak for Trinity II.

2006 League
Agnes Stewart 0 Trinity II 4
Trinity started their season with an
emphatic 4-0 destruction of Agnes Stewart. If
they had been looking a bit sluggish in pre-season that wasn’t evident
here as they came flying out of the blocks and did not give their
opponents a second to settle. In
the first ten minutes alone Trinity II could have been three up with only
a combination of good goalkeeping and bad luck keeping them out.
Fifteen
minutes into the game and the inevitable happened.
A throwing from the left reached Greg Turner, who laid the ball off
for Richard Lambert. Lambert
found John Hobbs on the penalty spot unmarked.
He turned and directed the ball into the bottom with a skilfully
executed finish to make it 1-0 Trinity.
Trinity II regained possession straight from the kick off and
continued their bombardment of the Agnes Stewart defence.
Man of the match Gareth Curran was terrorising the opposition and
it seemed like only a matter of time before Trinity II would score again.
The goal was not long in coming. Turner
broke through on the left wing and on entering the area he drilled a hard
low ball across the goal where Curran was running in.
Curran composed himself well to slot home from a tight angle to
make it 2-0. After the
restart Agnes Stewart enjoyed their first bit of possession in Trinity’s
half. However, they never really looked liked breaking down a
strong Trinity II defence and Field in goal never looked troubled.
It was from an Agnes Stewart attack that Trinity II scored their
third. An attacking move was
broken down and a quick Trinity II break put the ball through a
disorganised defence. Turner
took advantage of the mix up running clean through with ample time to pick
his spot and put the game beyond any serious doubt. Just before half time Williams replaced Connolly who had
picked up a strain.
The
second half started with Agnes Stewart putting Trinity II under pressure. However, this was short lived when Trinity II picked up the
ball in their own half and tore the Agnes Stewart defence apart with a
sweeping move which involved nearly every player of the midfield and
attack. The move was finished
off sweetly with Lambert heading home a glorious cross from Martin. Yates replaced Turner soon after and Trinity II continued to
dominate the game. Agnes
Stewart did come close once, but Field made an outstanding save, diving
and turning a long range effort around the post.
Yates almost managed to grab one for himself near the end after
forcing his way through, but his well driven shot went agonisingly wide.
This was a great start to the new campaign for Trinity II,
though it is unlikely that they will meet a team as weak as Agnes Stewart
again this season.
